Description
The purpose of this Code of Practice is to promote good practice in the selection, administration and interpretation of occupational and psychometric tests which are being used across the Authority. The Code of Practice applies to all staff. Such tests can be a valuable aid as part of the recruitment and selection process.
They can also be used to identify training and development needs and in career counselling as well as assisting managers to arrive at more accurate and informed perceptions about employees and potential employees. The Code of Practice aims to provide guidance to ensure the most effective use of occupational and psychometric tests, avoid unfair bias and promote Improvements in the achievement of equality of opportunity in employment.
The Code of Practice aims to ensure that the organization meets its legislative requirements and that occupational/psychometric tests do not discriminate against any group in the community. Tests must be used only to identify candidates abilities to fulfil the duties of the post.
Both staff who are qualified in Occupational Testing, and Managers have a duty to comply with the guidance in this Code of Practice, failure to do so could lead to disciplinary action being taken. The Code of Practice is split into two sections. Section One is aimed at Managers who wish to use occupational/psychometric tests in their work area. Section two is a guide for employees qualified in occupational/psychometric testing.
